King Charles Visits Germany in First Foreign Visit as UK Monarch :- King Charles III of the United Kingdom has arrived in Germany for his first official state visit as a monarch after the trip’s initial leg to France was postponed.
Early on Wednesday afternoon, when two military aircraft flew over Berlin’s government airport, Charles and Camilla, the queen consort, touched down and were greeted with a 21-gun salute.
The couple said on Twitter via the royal family’s account saying they were “very much looking forward to meeting all of individuals who make this country so great” before their three-day visit.
They declared that it was a great joy to be able to maintain the friendship between their two countries.
At Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Budenbender greeted the British royal family. They will travel with Charles and Camilla and will throw a black-tie dinner at Schloss Bellevue, the official house of the German president, on Wednesday night.
The monarch is set to address the Bundestag, Germany’s parliament, on Thursday. Also, he will talk to Ukrainian refugees, meet with German and British military troops engaged in collaborative projects, and meet with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. He will go to an organic farm outside of Berlin in the afternoon.
According to the German news agency dpa, about 1,500 spectators were allowed into the restricted area surrounding the famous monument in Berlin on Wednesday to greet the royals.
The coronation of Charles, 74, who succeeded his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away in September, is scheduled for May 6. He had originally intended to travel to France first, but the first part of his journey had to be cancelled because of fierce opposition to proposed pension changes there.
The British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s trip to the European Union’s two economic giants, France and Germany, was intended to highlight his country’s efforts to mend ties with the bloc after the UK left and to highlight their shared history as they fight Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine.
Sunak expects that the goodwill generated by a royal visit may open the way for advancement on other matters following Brexit, such as the UK’s rejoining an EU program that funds scientific research throughout Europe.
The first major test of the king’s ability to influence people’s opinions abroad, like his mother did for seven decades, and serve as an effective agent for the “soft power” that the House of Windsor has long possessed will be in Germany.
His visit will also give him a chance to promote the environmental and sustainability causes that are important to him.
The royal couple will travel to Hamburg on Friday to take part in a green energy event and to pay homage to the Jewish children who fled from Germany to the UK during the Third Reich at the Kindertransport Memorial before flying back to the UK.
